520 8 _aThis volume seeks to provide greater historical depth to the current fascination with emotions across a wide range of academic disciplines. A central claim of the book is that the relatively recent (1990s and 2000s) neuroscientific study of emotion did not initiate - but instead consolidated - the emotional turn by clearing the ground for a range of work on the emotions, now unencumbered by the post-war stigma of irrationalism. Emotion studies in the social sciences and even in the humanities now can work around the postwar binaries of reason vs. emotion, rationality vs. irrationalism.
